Appropriate treatment with antibiotics can be very beneficial to Lyme disease pain. Additional medications used to manage the pain from chronic Lyme disease include non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, anticonvulsants, antidepressants, opioids, and muscle relaxants. Additional treatments include "restorative" yoga, enzymes, essential oils, prolotherapy, injections, relaxation, manual treatments and gentle exercises. Some patients use magnets, tens machines and creams. Oftentimes chiropractic (many types), physical therapy (multiple techniques) and acupuncture are extremely beneficial, although it can be trial and error to find the right practitioner who can be flexible to the variable needs of Lyme patients.

Steroids killed nine-year-old Lexie McConnell after only five and a half weeks. In August 1993, Lexie was diagnosed as having toxoplasmosis. The consultant put her on 80 mg per day of prednisolone. Immediately, she suffered severe side effects, huge weight gain , terrible pains, holes in her tongue and black stools. After nearly a month, at her parents' pleading, the doctors quickly lowered the dosage to 60 mg, 40 mg, 20 mg. In excruciating pain, Lexie was taken to a hospital, where it was discovered she'd contracted chickenpox. Four days later, she died. A few years later, another eye specialist declared that a simple course of antibiotics could have cleared up her infection. The above excerpt is from Ursula Kelly's site

If you swallow the stuff instead of breathing it, you are ingesting some steroid. So that's a reason to try to inhale it properly and to rinse out the mouth afterwards. So they put the same warnings on inhaled steroids as on oral steroids, about growth and illness and everything, but they are unlikely to actually happen. Growth does get suppressed by even short courses of oral steroids, but it usually doesn't by long-term inhaled steroids. I believe the same is true regarding reduced resistance to illness. The small risk of steroid side effects happening with inhaled steroids is usually worth it to prevent the lung scarring that can happen if you don't treat asthma. And keeping asthma under control with daily meds like Pulmicort may help them avoid stronger meds like oral steroids for acute attacks.

The symptoms of immune hemolytic anemia include pale or yellowish skin color, tiredness or fatigue, fast heartbeat or heart rate, shortness of breath, enlarged spleen, and dark urine.  The disease is diagnosed by performing several tests.  The following indicate that the patient is suffering from the disease: Coombs’ test turning out positive direct or indirect; increased bilirubin levels; increased LDH level (LDH are enzymes that increase when the body is experiencing tissue damage); presence of hemoglobin in the urine; decreased serum haptoglobin level; increased reticulocyte count; and decreased hemoglobin and RBC count.
