Fluid retention after steroids

Hello, I have had terrible fluid retention (about 10-15 pounds that appeared overnight for the last year and a half.) I’ve had every blood test, stool test imaginable. The basic blood test showed possible dehydration and everything else is fine including kidney function. My diet is caffeine free and full of whole foods. I exercise daily which allows me to sweat out some fluid (Since this fluid retention I sweat excessively and very easily during exercise- the extra layer of fluid makes me feel very hot.) I drink around 3 litres of water per day. I’ve tried to add some pink Himalayan salt to food but this makes the fluid worse. Fluid is sometimes really smooth and other items really puffy suggesting that it’s moving between intracellular and extracellular. I’ve tried drinking more water but I just hold more. If I get hot or sweat slightly I become even puffier! I’m so fed up, please help!

Hello Ms. Lazarides. I am a 42yo male with a history of ulcerative colitis since I was 20yo. I am currently in remission, but due to drug allergies, exacerbations can be controlled only by cortizone over long periods of time. I always put a lot of weight with cortizone. I was 200lbs when I started treatment and bloated up to 260lbs, while being on a strict diet (no salt). What bothers me is that the extra weight, which is definitely not due to overeating, does not seem to go away even if it is over 1 1/2 year that I have completely stopped cortizone treatment. Everyday my ankles are swollen, and even the softest of socks will leave marks on my calves. My heart function is normal and my hormone levels (cortizol, thyroid, blood sugar) are normal too. I think I could benefit from the Waterfall Diet.

In 2008 I had my thyroid removed due to Hashimotos and an under active thyroid. Turned out I had cancer. Had radiation – drank it. So my surgeon wants to keep my TSH at or less. I had Bariatric Surgery in 2010, lost 140 pounds and doing well. Then my TSH level has started to go up due to the way I absorb. My level went up to for TSH. Changed my medicine and the way I take it, now don’t take it with any other medicine. My level went to .8. six weeks later tested again and it went to .3. My primary care, thinks it is to low, surgeon thinks it is ok. Last two weeks I have started gaining weight and now last two days water retention is horrible, Both ankles swollen. 10 pounds of water weight right now in last couple of days. Any recommendations. Desperate in Indianapolis
